Description
A rare and very fine late 17th Century Gobelins Tapestry woven in wool and silk depicting Zephyr seducing Flora. Flora riding in her golden chariot pulled by Pegasus accepts a cup of drugged wine from her seducer Zephyr God of the West Wind. Water-nymphs in rain clouds above pouring water from scallop shells beneath the approaching god Apollo bringing the dawn. Within a verdure landscape with a waterfall and river and a fore ground with large scale garden plants.
This beautiful and very fine tapestry from the late 17th Century is in remarkably fresh condition and still retains most of its original colours. Slightly reduced in size and now with a plain narrow brown and cream border.
