SOLD A very fine 17th century Aubusson historical tapestry woven in wool and silk. The tapestry depicts Scipio the great Roman General negotiating the terms of surrender with the defeated Hannibal. Scipio conquered Carthage in the battle of Zuma ending the second Punic war. Hannibal stands to the left with Scipio between two Roman soldiers bearing halberds. A small child leads three camels in the middle distance. The group is depicted within a verdure landscape with flowering plants in the foreground. The tapestry retains its original fresh colours and contrasts and is in excellent order throughout. Circa: 1670 Height: 240cm Width: 290cm
