SOLD A fine 17th century French tapestry woven in wool and silk depicting Aurora and Cephalus

A very fine 17th century Aubusson tapestry woven in wool and silk depicting the Goddess Aurora and the huntsman Cephalus. A beautifully detailed tapestry retaining its original elaborate borders of flower garlands with vases and ostrich feathers to the corners. The goddess of the Dawn, Aurora attempted to seduce the mortal huntsman Cephalus who rejected her in favour of his wife Girodet. Aurora then abducted him whilst he slept at dawn and took hm to Olympus where he begged to return to his wife. Circa: 1670 Height: 290cm Width: 330cm
