Description
A very fine early 17th century Spanish Vargueno. Retaining its original taquillon base. Constructed in walnut the fall front with beautifully detailed pierced gothic plaques over crimson silk velvet. The very elaborate lock retaining original key. The vargueno opens to reveal a magnificent interior with an arrangement of variously sized drawers and cupboards. The interior elaborately gilt and polychrome decorated with Solomonic turned bone columns and plaques. The base with two deep drawers over a pair of cupboard door also inlaid with bone plaques and velvet backed pierced gilt panels. Circa: 1600 Height: 152cm, Width: 110cm, Depth: 46cm.
