Description
A 17th century oil on board painting of a Lady at her bath after Frances Clouet (1520-1572). There are many versions of this popular painting but this one is close to the original. The principal subject has often been said to be a portrait of Diane de Poitiers and perhaps less likely Mary Queen of Scots. It combines elements of both portraiture and allegory possible representing an ideal of beauty. Of octagonal shape and contained within a beautiful carved, painted and giltwood trumeau frame. Height: 114cm, Width: 156cm
