Description
A magnificent early 18th century Flemish Tapestry. Emblematic of Water and Winter woven in wool and silk and retaining brilliant colourings. Water is represented by a beautiful nymph leaning on a jar of flowing water with a Galleon in full sail in her right hand. A child at her feet plays with fish with a trophy of sea creatures at her side. Winter is depicted as an older woman in an ermine lined cloak, warming her hands at a brazier accompanied by a shivering child wrapped in a blue blanket. The background with palms, reeds and an architectural garden urn and wall. From the workshop of Daniel Leyniers IV, a known fragment from and important composition after a cartoon by Godfried Maes and Zegar Jacob Van Helmont. Circa: 1730 Width: 322cm Height: 200cm
