Description
A very beautiful Spanish 17th/18th century carved and gilt-wood statue of the assumption of the Virgin Mary. Retaining the superb original gilding and delicate polychrome decoration. Standing on a rising wave of cloud and carried up by four divine cherubs. Her arms opened in rapture, the flowing drapery of her robe emphasizing the animation of her ascent to heaven. The rectangular base bearing her monogram AM for Auspice Maria to the front and back with a Devine cherub to each side. Circa: 1700
