A very fine early 17th century Spanish Reliquary bust. The exquisitely decorated figure of an elaborately dressed and tonsured bust of the Saint with a bone reliquary labelled Saint Simon de Roxas (Saint Simon de Rojas died 1624). The polychrome figure wearing elaborate brocaded robes very finely decorated with gold and resting on a base with Latin inscription. Saint Simon a member of the Trinitarian Order was a highly venerated figure in late 16th and early 17th century Spain. He was confessor to the Spanish Queen and tutor to her children and was considered a Saint even on his death bed. The reliquary is decorated and carved in the round to be seen at all angles. Circa: 1624 Height: 40cm, width: 26cm, Depth: 16cm.
