An early 19th century oil on canvas portrait of a young lady in fur in Louis XIII Frame

A beautiful early 19th century oil on canvas portrait of a young lady in a red velvet gown. The arrangement of the painting is after Titians “Young woman in furs”. Although in this painting a different sitter is painted with a hairstyle perhaps suggesting a date of circa 1820. The magnificent elaborate carved gilt-wood frame shown here is French from the early 17th century. This Louis XIII frame is a masterpiece of woodcarving and a near identical frame of the same size now holds Raphael’s portrait of Baldassare Castiglione in the Musee de Louvre Paris. It was formally owned by Cardinal Mazarine. Height of painting: 63cm. Height of Frame: 123cm Width: 101cm.
