Description
A George VI Coronation chair used at Westminster Abbey at the Coronation of George VI on the 12th May 1937. The elegant chair of limed oak and upholstered in olive green velvet trimmed with gold braid and embroidered to the top left hand corner with the Royal Cypher of George VI. Stamped to the underside of the chair rail: Coronation George VI.
These chairs were used by the more distinguished guests whilst those of a lesser rank used stools of a similar design. After the Coronation guests were given an option to purchase the chair reserved for their own use.
