Description
A fine and rare late 15th/early 16th century Florentine walnut Savonarola Chair of imposing pro-portions. The serpentine slats with etched lines, those of the seat with a repeating pattern of crosses. The upholstered back and central pin removable allowing the chair to fold. Deriving from ancient Roman ‘curule’ chairs and always associated with high status individuals and also known as ‘faldistorium’ and Dante Chairs symbolising power and authority.
